After many years… I finally loaded the video! Enjoy…xoxo
In November 2009, Miss Universe Singapore ’09, Rachel Kum and Hayden Ng, flew to Sri Lanka and together with the Singapore Club there, they did two very special Charity Fashion Shows to raise funds for the National Thalasaemia Center Kurunegala.
With the money raised, they are able to buy Desferal & Infusa Pumps & butterfly needles, which are machines that is attached to the patients abdomen area, the medicines are then attached to the syringe & injected into the belly, arms or thighs. This treatment takes 12 hours per day and the device helps to remove the over excessive iron deposits collected throughout the body.
There are about 1,600 patients who requires this treatment as of date.
This is a genetic disease mainly in rural areas, so education and many new prevention programs are being introduced into these areas prone to this disease. There is still need of other medical machines & equipment which cost up to 1.3 million Rupees.
