The Singapore Club staged two shows, the first a cocktail show and the other a sundown cocktail show in the intimate surroundings of the Ivy Room at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. The cocktails brought together a cross section of the elite not only in fashion but from many walks of life which included many men. This inaugural charity fashion show was the Singapore (Sri Lanka) highlight event for the year. The designer Hayden Ng is a name said to be synonymous with breathtaking innovation and sophisticated artistry, certainly lived upto to the promise with a collection which was flatteringly feminine and centred around flares, permanent pleating, and net, chiffon and gleaming satins. There were dresses using scarves, and stoles took a narrower and shorter form. Having begun as a teenager Hayden soon established himself and is now a dedicated costume designer for the theatre and among the most reputed personalities in the business and continues to be respected and adored as a designer with a vision that is unparalleled and a style that is unrivalled.

Rachel Kum who is the current Miss. Singapore/Universe at 24 is eloquent and graceful. Rachel is a Brand Manager in the medical industry and received her academic qualifications in UWA Australia. Among the Executive Committee that made this show a possibility and a success were Elias Abraham as President, Jacquie Mei, Champa Mohinani, Desi Hirdramani and Badrika Mendis.

In the collection were evening gowns, one in an entirely sequined mint green Rachel modelled. Particularly feminine was the evening dress of brown toned net over chiffon on a foundation of gold satin. There were rare skirts one in tiered tamarind and olive green net frills and a black gown with a fitting gold and black bustier.

The verdict was that it was a show worth seeing besides contributing to the worthy cause, the Rehabilitation of Thalassaemia patients.

Among those adding glamour to the event were Kimarli Fernando, Nualla Wijetunge, Mano Caderamanpulle, Alnaz Esufali, Rebecca de Silva, Dawn Austin, Sunethra Wijegoonewardene and Shanthi Shanmuganathan.
